Without supported and supportive Unions, your rights as a worker will continually be under threat by large business and companies whose only aim is to raise their own profits by whatever means necessary. It is, in a global economy, the job of Managers and Human Resources to represent the company and to keep your wages and rights as low as possible to get the highest possible profit for owners and shareholders. This is their JOB. Whose JOB is it to look after YOUR RIGHTS? YOUR WAGES? Only through a unified front, through people educated in the issues, through your own education and that of your workmates and colleagues can the average worker hope to receive a fair days wage for a fair day work, to receive the rights due to them as a worker, no matter their job description, race, religion or gender. Your children, without future unions, can only look forward to a life whose terms are dictated by companies, that can have their jobs sent offshore to poorer countries whose workers are too oppressed and threatened to be able to stand up for their rights.

Allow your children to control their life by controlling the terms of their employment. Unions do not say you have the right to whatever you WANT, what they say is that you have the right to a fair and liveable wage, the right to be treated humanly in your job, to not be sacked without fair reason, to regular and uninterrupted breaks, to safe as possible working conditions, to not be sexually, racially or politically harassed or bullied, to an offer of permanent employment after a breif trial period is over. A Union’s job is to look after you and your rights so that you can get on with “the job of doing your job”, without having to worry that your rights are constantly under threat, so that you have the garauntees, rights and conditions that those who employ you expect and take for granted. Support all Unions, both in your country and overseas, in order to create workplaces worldwide that allow yourself and others to get on with the job, safe in the knowledge that you and they are supported by workers worldwide. Only through unity and unions will we be able to protect our own, our childrens and others rights of employment and treatment in the future. No-one else will do it for us.
